Philips employs over 2,500 people in the UK. They are deployed across a wide spectrum of business activities that embrace the key platforms of Philips dedication to providing Healthcare, Lifestyle and Technology based products and services. All UK activities are co-ordinated from a modern Head Office complex in Guildford, Surrey, just to the south of London.
If there's one area of your life where you can't afford to make compromises, it's in healthcare. Philips recognizes this. We are proud that our medical customers have ranked us number 1 in cardiovascular X-ray, digital X-ray and ultrasound, patient monitoring systems, nuclear medicine, cardiology systems and critical care systems.
At Philips, we believe that every moment you spend at home (or away from work) should be enjoyable and uncomplicated: time spent recharging your batteries or simply enjoying yourself. Today's world is constantly changing, and changing fast bringing new possibilities every day that would have seemed unimaginable just a short while ago.
Technology is part of our lives. It's all around us, powering most of the things we do, and we interact with it practically every second, often without realizing it. Because it is such a vital part of the way we live today, Philips believes that technology should be designed around people and that the route to innovation should be about simplicity, not complexity. We believe that technology - however advanced it may be - should be unobtrusive, easy to experience and as simple to use as the box it comes in.
The global prominence of Philips in Lighting, Medical and Semiconductor, Home and Portable Entertainment systems, Domestic and Personal Care appliances, is reflected by significant commercial operations in the UK. In addition, several manufacturing centres exist in the UK as part of the Philips global supply network. Such operations are based at Guildford, Cambridge, Colchester, Hamilton, Hazel Grove, Milton Keynes, Redhill, Reigate and Southampton. This includes technical, operational support and customer care after sales services.
Research and development takes place at two major UK sites. At Redhill teams are involved in many aspects of innovation in consumer electronics (new types of display, wireless communications and multimedia systems) and the application of new technologies, such as bio-sensors which involves collaborative ventures with many of the prestigious UK universities. Redhill is also the UK base for the Applied Technologies group which looks at how technology can be made and used, right down to environmental testing. In Southampton people work on the designs and applications for silicon chips to be used in consumer electronics products, from teletext to DVDs.
